It’s come around far too quickly, but it’s nearly that time of year where your little ones go back to school or are starting school/nursery for the first time. It’s a big transition for the whole family, and a change for you both. We’ve popped together some tips on how to get school ready and to hopefully help make that transition slightly easier.
Prepare Them
Read books about the first day. We love:
- Little Owl’s First Day
- First Day at Bug School
- The Colour Monster Goes to School
- I’m Starting Nursery
- Mae’s First Day of School
- Benny the Brave in The First Day Jitters
Look at the school website and photos of the school.
Treat them to new lunch boxes / shoes to get them excited.
Get Into The Routine
Time to ditch the late summer nights and start adjusting to an earlier bed/wake up time ahead of the first day! Try moving bedtime for 15 minutes each day.
Talk About It
Find time to discuss school: what they think they will be doing. Making new friends. What they want for lunch!
Make It Interesting
Especially if you’re looking at Home Educating – put out a variety of objects to engage all of the senses and follow your child’s needs and interests.
Surprise Them
Write a little note to let them know how proud you are and pop it into their lunchbox. It might just be the exact pick-me-up that they need during break time.
Be Kind To Yourself
Your little one going to schools is just as hard on your as it is on them. You are raising a wonderful little person and sending them off on their first day of school. You’ve got this!
