It’s January, it’s 2022 and it’s time to make some time for YOU! We’re all run ragged after the hustle and bustle of the Christmas period, so what better time to slow down and take care of yourself. Here’s a few self care ideas to make time for just you, whether you take a day to yourself of just ten minutes of your day, there’s something you can do that is solely to make you feel good.
Get Outside
We all know being outdoors can do you the world of good, if you’re not quite feeling yourself or feel a little stodgy after all the Christmas treats, get yourself out in Mother Nature and enjoy. Whether you go for a walk in the woods, start planting your winter bulbs in the garden or simply just sit outside and breath in the crisp winter air, you’re bound to feel better in yourself!
Start Something New
A new hobby maybe? Knitting or candle making? Or something more simple, a new book or a new morning routine. Start something new that you can continue each day that lifts your spirits.
Bake Something Tasty
There’s something so therapeutic about combining ingredients together into something wonderful. If you’re not still stocked up on festive treats, why not follow a simple recipe to bake yourself something scrumptious to eat? Gooey brownies are a fab little treat to cheer yourself up with. Alternatively, if you’re more savoury, why not have a go at some cheese scones or a mouth watering chicken pie.
Get Cosy
Put the kids to bed, light a candle, put on your favourite pyjamas and cosy up with a good movie or book to read. Sometimes the simple act of lighting a candle and cuddling up under a blanket is enough to cheer yourself up. Practising those simple hygge moments really can make a difference!
Brighten Up Your Space
January’s weather isn’t always the lightest and brightest is it. If you’re feeling as damp and dark as the sky outside, try and brighten up your home. You can do this by simply changing up your decor. Subtle or bold, an injection of new colour is bound to bring a smile on your face. You could change up your cushion covers, put out a vase of bright blooms or go wild and repaint your sitting room! If you really can’t stand colour, try new lighting, an led bulb is a lot brighten than those slow to start energy savers – and even more efficient! Make sure to open your curtains and blinds every day and if you’re really not ready to put away the fairy lights from Christmas, just take them off your tree and hang them in your home.
Create A Calm Moment
Give yourself a small moment of calm in each and every day. Whether you have an hour or just five minutes. You could listen to a podcast, run yourself a wellness bath, do some mediation, or simply just lay with your eyes closed for a moment. Make time to do whatever makes you feel like you!

Comfort Food
Everyone has that one meal or snack that just envelopes you with those warm comforting feelings. Whether it’s your grandmas famous casserole recipe or a warm cinnamon bun, take time to enjoy your all time favourites.
Treat Yourself
Sometimes mama NEEDS to be treated! You don’t have to spend money either (but if you’re dying for that dress you saw in the sales – buy it!). You could treat yourself by just doing what you love!
A Hot Cup Of…
Tea, coffee, hot chocolate, warm Vimto… whatever floats your boat. Look after yourself, remember to hydrate and go ahead and let the kids make a mess for the sake of a whole hot beverage! There’s nothing worse than finding it stone cold on the side four hours later.
Happy Place
Go to your happy place. Your sofa, your bed, lay down and dream of the holiday you went on four years ago. Or maybe you feel happiest plonked on your mums sofa, the porch swing, the local park, the beach. Whatever and wherever – go and enjoy!
Our whole theme in this month of January is self care! Please, no matter how busy you get, make time for you. You can’t pour from an empty cup.

I’m enjoying a lot of warm double chocolate mocha’s at the moment; they’re really brightening up my mid-morning. It’s such a little thing but it’s so effective!
