I can’t quite believe we are over half way through the year already – and that we have been running our book club for 6 months! Our June book club pick was The Whisper Man by Alex North. After the sudden death of his wife, Tom Kennedy believes a fresh start will help him and his young son Jake heal. A new beginning, a new house, a new town: Featherbank. Featherbank has a dark past. Twenty years ago, a serial killer abducted and murdered five residents. Until Frank Carter was finally caught, he was nicknamed “The Whisper Man,” for he would lure his victims out by whispering at their windows at night. Just as Tom and Jake settle into their new home, a young boy vanishes And then Jake begins acting strangely. He hears a whispering at his window.
JUNE BOOK CLUB PICK
MY REVIEW
It was the perfect atmospheric thriller that had me hooked from the first chapter! I haven’t felt this way about a book in so long – I genuinely didn’t want to put it down and read until wayyyy past my bedtime 😂.
I loved following the ups & downs of Tom and Jake’s father/son relationship – it felt really authentic. I found Tom to be a realistic single parent; constantly worrying if you’re doing enough and the right thing by your child.
The Whisper Man was so much creepier than I thought it would be! There were a few moments reading where I was like.. let’s just turn on allll the lights for a second 😂
The only thing that disappointed me slightly was the reveal of “who done it”. It felt very convenient and left me feeling a little short changed. BUT I still thoroughly enjoyed the story and highly recommend it.
YOUR THOUGHTS
“I loved it too – so very creepy! Totally agree about the reveal though. I felt like it if it had been a bit longer the ending would have been more satisfying as it felt a little rushed towards the end. Would have loved to have found out what actually happened to the culprit after he was caught.” – HELENA FROM @THETARTANLEEKS
I loved this book, agree with you on the creepiness factor… when I started it I wasn’t sure I would be able to keep going and actually finish reading! I loved Jake and who his friend turned out to be, it was quite heart wrenching really, but sweet… and not what I was expecting either. – BECQUI FROM @BECQUIJ
I really enjoyed this month’s choice! The beginning of the book was so so creepy! The father/son relationships developed in the book were really well done and added that extra depth to it. One of those “wow” thrillers that kept me gripped throughout. – JEN FROM @JEN_F88
I absolutely loved this twisty, dark and creepy thriller. It gave me the creeps I couldnt sleep and had plenty of surprises along the way. First class writing and addictive reading!! Highly recommended. – LINDSEY FROM @LIVINGINAMAMASWORLD
I loved this creepy thriller, definitely won’t be reading this type of book at night again though! So clever and had me guessing right until the end. – HEIDI FROM @HEIDIANDSMALLMOON
