SPRING CLEANING TIPS

Filed Under: HOME, LIFE, LIFESTYLE // March 17, 2021

It’s that time if year, one that I equal parts love & hate. SPRING CLEANING TIME. It is time to clean everything you can get your hands on and crack open the windows. Even though it is still slightly Baltic outside. Nothing like a bit of fresh air in your home. We are here to share our top spring cleaning tips. These tips will not only get your home sparkling but also get your cleaning done SOOO much quicker.

SPRING CLEANING TIPS

DECLUTTER FIRST

Listen, I think we are all guilty of going to B&M, Home Bargains and various other budget shops to stock up on cleaning items and storage. ALL THE STORAGE.. but that just adds to the clutter that’s already cluttering. It makes sense to get rid of everything you don’t need, first. Decide what you want to get rid of first, how you want to organise the things you are keeping and THEN buy the storage.

DON’T BE OVERLY SENTIMENTAL

Do you really need to keep every Christmas card your child has ever received? Do you really think you are going to use six old I-phones? Because we don’t. Throw it out!

REVAMP YOUR WARDROBE

This is something I desperately need to do. You probably own 20 different jumpers, but do you wear them all? We tend to reach for the same clothes over & over again, so it is time for a sort out! Turn all your coat hangers the “wrong way round” in your wardrobe, so they are hanging towards you. Then when you wear something, hang it back the right way – facing away from you. In six months have a look at your wardrobe and anything that is still facing the wrong way, get rid of.

CREATE A CHECKLIST

Nothing feels more satisfying that ticking off your to do list! Write down room by room exactly what jobs you want to achieve and it’ll feel all the sweeter when you can sit down and tick off every job.

SPRING CLEANING

CREATE CLEANING ZONES

If there is one or two rooms that are particularly bad, focus on them first! If you have a weekend to crack on, do those rooms first and then do the others that won’t be as time consuming.

MAKE IT FUN

Watch an episode of your favourite tv show whilst you fold and put away clothes, listen to a podcast or an audiobook, turn up the music! Make it as fun as it can because the novelty of cleaning soon wears off.

MINIMISE MULTIPLES

Nobody needs five tin openers, 4 rolling pins & 12,000 reusable shopping bags. Get rid. Have a look what other multiples you have and throw them away, it is just extra clutter you do not need.

Haha I’m so much an overly emotional cleaner 😂 how can you expect me to dump that insignificant, ugly Christmas angel statue I don’t even like? I should really work on it though.

These are some helpful tips! I like the idea of cleaning zones, it brings down the magnitude of the work to smaller bits and makes them look manageable.

Excellent tips! I try to be ruthless when it comes to getting rid of clothes, I have far too many.
When it gets to the end of spring, I fold away all of my winter clothes into vacuum bags so they take up less space.

These are all great tips! I am so bad at cleaning out mostly when it comes to my wardrobe, I get so sentimental after things that maybe I haven’t worn in the last years, but still, have memories! Really need to try and make it fun, thanks for sharing x

This post deserves a round of applause. No frills. No lengthy notes. Just the basics of spring cleaning, which I LOVE! It has motivated me to get to some of this in my own home very soon!

The use of ‘cleaning zones’ has been one of the biggest game-changers in my cleaning efforts. If you look at the house as a whole, it can quickly feel overwhelming. However, if you break it down and just focus on one or two zones, it’s far more manageable. When it comes time for bigger cleaning plans, like ‘spring cleaning’, I try to break it down so that I’m tackling a different room each day.

Ugh, I’m so attached to too many things. It’s such a bad habit. I really need to minimize. Why do I keep so many multiples? I shall turn up the tunes and get to getting rid of the extra! It is time.

I love the idea of turning the hangers the other way in the wardrobe! This would definitely help me see what I wear and what I don’t, thanks for the tip 🙂 xx

Love this post! I’m not one to spring clean really but I think it’s safe to say in the past year that my home has started to become cluttered with stuff. So I’ve been slowly redecorating and down to my room now which I think I’ll tackle with a good spring clean and clear out – especially of my wardrobe too!

The only thing I hate about Spring is the need to do a thorough cleaning! These are great tips and I love that you included listening to music, a book or podcast while you’re cleaning to make the task that much more tolerable. Thanks for sharing.

Great post! Love the idea of creating zones! We’re tackling the closet this weekend and I have a hard time holding on to clothes for sentimental reasons so I’m going to try and work on that this weekend. Thanks for the tips!

love your suggestions! i’ve been decluttering the house lately to get ready for the new season. something i would also include is any quarantine items you don’t use (like masks you don’t like to wear or puzzles you won’t use again).

Let’s talk about different play schemas… Does Let’s talk about different play schemas…

Does your little one show any signs of play schemas in their everyday play? My little boy is currently very much in the rotation schema, he will spin anything and everything he can and I have to say he’s pretty good at it!

There are lots of Different types of schemas I’ve listed a few below for you, can you spot anyone’s your little ones do? let us know below!

Trajectory - Exploring movement and forces through throwing, jumping and kicking. Their behaviour can sometimes seem challenging – throwing food and toys, leaping on sofas, or kicking off their shoes.

Transporting - Fascinated by taking things from place to place. They may fill bags, baskets and pockets with tiny objects to carry around it, or load up toy buggies, trucks and ride-ons with things to move about.

Rotation - Obsessed with spinning and turning. Look out for them turning knobs and lids, watching the laundry go round and round in the washing machine, or spinning the wheels on buggies, bikes and toy cars.

Transforming - Mixing their breakfast into a mush or pour their juice into their dinner, it could be part of a transforming schema; a fascination with changing the state of things, painting, making mud pies are all perfect activities to support this schema.

Enveloping - Wrapping themselves up the curtains or put blankets over their head, may be exhibiting an enveloping schema. It may not be just themselves they like to wrap up; children with this schema are also often fascinated with wrapping up objects and putting things inside envelopes and bags.

Enclosing - Love to hide in small spaces – in a laundry basket, under a bush or in a swimming pool locker, for instance.

Connecting - Joining objects, putting together toy train tracks and roadways, tying laces, sticking velcro, or using sticky tape and glue. Some like to disconnect them too – knocking down or pulling apart their creations can be part of their fascination.
Feeling like a failure A failure of a mum... Bec Feeling like a failure

A failure of a mum...

Because I can see people's looks when he is having his crazy tantrums.

When he is kicking, screaming, shouting....I can see! All the judging looks!

"What a horrible boy" "she can not have raised him properly" "she must have done something wrong" "What is wrong with him?"

Sunday night at the airport was such a low point for me. Kaiden had his biggest ever tantrum and playing up being silly.

I just got to a point where I felt useless. Whatever I said or did he acted up. People were staring at us.

Some of them muttering something to a friend, others shaking their heads. Others just staring.....

I think that was my low point as a parent...I wanted to just walk away...curl up like a ball and cry.

But there was nowhere to go...because I was there on my own...with two kids.

The last few weeks I have felt so low. Like such a failure! Because no matter what I do or say, he just doesn't listen when he is in his "moods"

And it always ends with me loosing my temper because I just don't know what else to do! I have cried myself to sleep a lot. Wishing my mum ws here to guide me!

So why am i sharing this? Well this is not a pity post, I just wanted to share that there can be some very low lows in motherhood.

So whenever you feel like you hit that low point, rest assured that you are not alone! We all feel like we can't take anymore at some point.

When you do, speak to someone! A partner, parent, friend.....or even us!! Because it does help a little to feel less lonely in it all ❤️❤️❤️

I mean, kitchen....bathroom...living room, bedroom I mean, kitchen....bathroom...living room, bedroom. There is always somewhere to clean.

And it never feels as if it stays clean for more then a minute with kids around! 🙈

What part of the house is the place you dread the most to clean?
